If You Can Imagine Eating From A Shack, This Is The Place For You
I have a confession, I am a snob. This “ah-ha” moment came to me as
I was sitting at Salty’s BBQ eating my most favorite sandwich—The Pig.
This sandwich takes barbequing up to a whole new level!
Living in Bakersfield, California there are numerous barbeque places,
most of which are well known chains. Now I enjoy every one of these
places.

One day I noticed a shanty with a large grill on the premises. By
appearance only, it reminded me of the fast food, greasy spoon joints
that I knew would give me some sort of disease.

If I drove by at lunch time, there was such a wonderful barbeque
aroma that would set my taste buds watering, and my tummy
grumbling. But still I would not stop.

Red and white checkered table cloths on the six family style picnic
tables always seemed to clean, caught my attention. The large BBQ banner waving in the wind and the heavenly smell being carried right into my car. Still I wouldn’t turn in.

So, for about three years, I was being enticed by this wonderful smell. One day an episode of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives aired featuring Salty’s BBQ. I saw the same tiny shack with the same redwood picnic tables with the same red and white checker tablecloths and of course, the same large barbeque grill. I told my husband “that is the same place that we pass by almost daily. It’s only a mile away. We need to try it!” That day was life changing in our culinary repertoire.
